Regional Instructor Award

Course Overview

The Regional Instructor Award is the second ScotSAC qualification and aims to develop Instructors of a standard suitable for a wider range of training. Regional Instructors may deliver training outside of their own Branch. The Regional Instructor award is intended to complement the training of ScotSAC members outside your own Branch.

Scope of the award

Attend a Regional Instructor Course and complete all resultant recommendations
Complete the Course written paper
Successfully complete a practical pool assessment viewed by your Regional Coach and a Club Examiner.
Successfully complete a lecture assessment viewed by your Regional Coach and a Club Examiner.
Successfully complete a practical open water session viewed by your Regional Coach and a Club Examiner.

Post-Award

Upon completion of the award, your Regional Coach may ask for your assistance with pool work, open water work or possibly theory work on a specific day or event. You will not always be able to help; your own branch may be in more need of your time, family commitments etc, but on some occasions when you are free you will be asked to lend a hand. You will meet new faces and hopefully enjoy the experience of helping others learn to dive, after all somebody did it for you!

Pre-Requisites

All divers must satisfy the following prerequisites;

Hold current membership of the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club.
Have been a ScotSAC Sports Diver for at least eighteen months
Hold current medical certificate.
Be aged 21 or over (unless recommended by RC).
Have normally been a member for two years
Have an active status as a Branch Instructor for at least one year
Have a letter of recommendation from his/her Branch Diving Officer and Regional Coach
Hold the Master Diver award

Course Dates

Course dates are available in the events section. RI Course is normally held annually over a residential weekend.

The cost of this course is normally covered by ScotSAC.
