First Class Diver Award

Course Overview

The First Class Diver award is the top level diving qualification from ScotSAC. It recognises a wide range of diving experience.

Assessment For the Award

To qualify for the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club First Class Diver Award the candidate must satisfy the following conditions.

  1. Be a Master Diver and at least 21 years of age
  2. Submit a properly witnessed logbook showing at least 200 open water dives. Diving experience should include the following number and types of dives:
    (a) Five to at least 40 metres where the ScotSAC 'Deep Diving Recommendations' have been implement.
    (b) Twenty dives to a least 30 metres.
    (c) The candidate's logbook must show experience of all the following types of dives: night, nil visibility, large boat dives (e.g. MFV), RHIB, wreck, drift, fresh water, rough water, cold (winter).
  3. Submit a current Medical Certificate
  4. Submit a letter of recommendation from the Branch Committee and pay the approved fee for the examination
  5. During the preceding two years the candidate must have obtained the Deep Rescue Endorsement
  6. Pass the ScotSAC or equivalent Boat Handling Endorsement
  7. Hold a VHF certificate
  8. Pass the ScotSAC Nitrox Endorsement
  9. Pass the ScotSAC Oxygen Administration and Life Support Endorsement
  10. Successfully complete two modules from prescribed list: Regional Instructor, Advanced Boat Handling, Technical Diving, Photography, Marine Biology, Wreck Research, Archaeology, Diving Physiology.
  11. Pass an Expedition Planning Paper set within the approval of the National Diving Council
  12. Pass a practical examination set with the approval of the National Diving Council

NOTE - Parts 1 - 10 must be completed before the closing date of the application.
